The unemployment rate in Australia fell by0.2% in December
to 5.5%, compared to same time in the previous year, accordingto
seasonally adjusted figures from the Australian Bureau of
Statistics.
The figures showed that employmentincreased by 34,700 to
reach 12.4 million in December. Full-time employmentincreased
15,100 to 8.5 million and part-time employment increased 19,500
to3.9 million.
Unemployment increased 20,500 to 730,600.The number of
unemployed persons looking for full-time work increased 9,900
to501,800 and the number of unemployed persons only looking for
part-time workincreased 10,600 to 228,800.
The Labour force participation rateincreased by 0.2% to
65.7% in December, compared to the previous year.
